Olympique de Marseille has officially loaned Bamo Meïté to FC Lorient for the 2025/2026 season, including a purchase option. The 23-year-old Ivorian center-back, who previously impressed at Lorient between 2021 and 2024, returns to his former club to regain playing time after a challenging season at Montpellier.
Under contract with OM until 2028, Meïté is no longer part of Marseille’s immediate plans. The loan with an option to buy offers a solution for the player and allows FC Lorient to strengthen their defense with a familiar and experienced player.
Having played only 10 Ligue 1 matches last season, Meïté aims to regain his form and confidence by rejoining the Merlus. This move highlights OM’s strategy to manage squad depth through loan deals.
This transfer might also add an extra layer of intrigue to future matches between Lorient and OM, intensifying the French league rivalry.
