Benfica faces a difficult end to the transfer window for Mohamed Amoura: Wolfsburg demands 40 million euros

The summer transfer window is lively around Mohamed Amoura, the 25-year-old Algerian striker playing for VfL Wolfsburg. This summer, Benfica showed strong interest in recruiting Amoura after reaching a personal agreement with the player. The Portuguese club reportedly made an initial offer between 27 and 35 million euros, but Wolfsburg remains firm and demands at least 40 million euros to release their key striker.

Peter Christiansen, Wolfsburg’s managing director, clearly stated that the club will only let Amoura go if the price is right and the team remains competitive without him. This position reflects the German club’s desire to start the season with a strong squad, which seriously complicates negotiations with Benfica despite the player’s expressed wish to move to Portugal.

The discussions between the two clubs have had ups and downs: after rejecting several offers deemed insufficient, Benfica recently decided to cool their interest or temporarily withdraw from negotiations. This decision is partly because Wolfsburg’s asking price is considered too high and because Kerem Aktürkoğlu is expected to stay at Benfica, reducing the urgent need for a new striker.

Mohamed Amoura, who had a solid season with 10 goals in 34 matches across all competitions, remains focused on his current performances with Wolfsburg despite speculation about his future. He continues training with his club, although he had to cut short a session due to a thigh discomfort. Wolfsburg hopes for a swift resolution to this matter to better prepare for the start of the German championship.
