Ligue 1 Mobilis is reaching a historic milestone with the generalization of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology for all 240 matches of the 2025-2026 season. This advancement, officially announced by the Algerian Football Federation (FAF), represents a major step forward for Algerian professional football, promising greater transparency and fairness in refereeing decisions.
The gradual introduction of VAR began in the 2024-2025 season, with limited use in select matches, notably the Algerian Cup quarterfinals and certain Ligue 1 games such as ES Sétif – MC El Bayadh. Thanks to the recent acquisition of four VAR-equipped vans with modern technology, the FAF has planned a full rollout starting from the 2025 season, fulfilling a commitment made during the federal elections in September 2023.
To ensure the success of this deployment, the FAF organized intensive training sessions for VAR operators, bringing together Algerian technicians guided by international experts to guarantee optimal system control. This setup, installed in all stadiums meeting technical requirements, will help reduce refereeing errors and support the modernization of the national championship, mirroring major global leagues.
Alongside this technological innovation, Ligue 1 Mobilis is also witnessing renewed ambition with the return of clubs such as ES Ben Aknoun, aiming to establish themselves firmly in the top division. The combination of fairer refereeing through VAR and a more competitive league should enhance the appeal and credibility of Algerian football at the dawn of the 2025-2026 season.
