Ismaël Gharbi: Former PSG prodigy draws interest from several European clubs

Ismaël Gharbi, a former Paris Saint-Germain hopeful, is currently going through a critical phase in his young career.

After a successful loan spell at Lausanne-Ouchy and a free transfer to Braga completed in the summer of 2024, the 21-year-old left winger has not fully lived up to expectations, with 4 goals and 5 assists in 35 matches across all competitions. PSG still holds 50% of his rights and has included a buy-back clause, demonstrating the Parisian club’s continued trust in him.

Despite praise from his former coach Carlos Carvalhal, Gharbi is considering a new challenge before the end of the summer 2025 transfer window. Several clubs from Spain, Scotland, and Belgium — notably Anderlecht — have shown interest due to his versatility as a player who can operate all across the front line. Any future transfer would enable PSG to receive half of the transfer fees, according to their agreement with Braga.

On the international front, Gharbi’s future remains uncertain. Currently a youth international with Spain (6 caps for the U19 team), he is contemplating representing Tunisia, his paternal country of origin. Having already donned youth jerseys for both France and Spain, this switch of national allegiance could be a major turning point in his career and boost his international profile.

Having signed a contract with Braga until 2029, Ismaël Gharbi has an excellent opportunity to establish himself in the Portuguese Liga and take a significant step forward in a competitive European league. His career path exemplifies the realities of developing young talents from major academies: gradual integration, strategic loans, and transfers. His future now depends on his on-field performances and wise career decisions.
