Angers SCO has officially appointed Haris Belkebla as captain for the 2025–2026 season, a decision that highlights the importance of the Algerian midfielder within the squad.
Arriving in the summer of 2024 from Saudi club Ohod, Belkebla quickly established himself as a key figure thanks to both his performances and his influence in the dressing room, succeeding previous long-serving captains.
At 31 years old, the Algerian international, with 11 caps, has amassed over 370 professional appearances. Coach Alexandre Dujeux praised his natural leadership, discipline, and exemplary conduct on and off the pitch, noting that Belkebla unites and inspires his teammates. This captaincy role comes at a perfect time, as Angers aims to strengthen its position in Ligue 1 and is counting heavily on unity and collective discipline.
Haris Belkebla expressed his pride and determination to fully embrace the role: “It’s an honor for me. I will do everything I can to live up to it and help lift the team higher. We are a team where many could have been captain, but it’s the strength of the collective that will make the difference this season.” He will wear the black-and-white armband from the very first match of the season, against Paris FC.
This appointment also comes amid a broader renewal of leadership within the SCO, with the probable departure of senior players such as Himad Abdelli. His successor, Belkebla, known for his discipline and respect, embodies the stability and commitment Angers will need to face the challenges of the 2025–2026 campaign.
