From Senegal to Portugal: Mohamed Lamine Ndiaye’s strategic leap with FC Alverca

FC Alverca, newly promoted to Liga Portugal, made a statement in the 2025 summer transfer market by signing Mohamed Lamine Ndiaye, the young Senegalese defender who trained at Guédiawaye and developed in France at AS Saint-Étienne. Free agent as of July 2025, 19-year-old Ndiaye commits to the Lisbon-based club set to strengthen its backline for the 2025-2026 season.

Joining France’s Saint-Étienne reserves in 2023, Ndiaye quickly stood out as a defensive leader. Originally a midfielder, he was successfully converted to centre-back thanks to his physicality, passing ability, and game reading. As a Senegal U20 international, his leadership and maturity established him as a rising African talent.

His move to FC Alverca—owned by Brazilian star Vinicius Jr.—fits the club’s strategy of building a young, ambitious roster. With survival and stability as goals, Ndiaye brings top-flight experience and fulfilment of the club’s vision by anchoring their defence.

For Mohamed Lamine Ndiaye, this transfer is a crucial step to grow and showcase his skills in a competitive league. Alverca fans hope the “Richard-Toll prodigy” will become their defensive mainstay and symbolize the new wave of African footballers thriving in European leagues.
