Chemsdine Talbi: Morocco’s emerging star joins Sunderland for Premier League glory

Sunderland have pulled off a major coup this summer by signing Moroccan winger Chemsdine Talbi from Club Brugge. With a reported €23 million transfer fee and a five-year contract, Talbi is considered one of Africa’s most promising talents, ready to leave a mark on the 2025-26 Premier League season.

Developed in Morocco before making his name in Belgium, Talbi registered seven goals and five assists in 2024-25, including a stunning Champions League double against Atalanta, ranking as the youngest Belgian to score twice in a single match in the competition. His pace, direct play, and ability to operate on both wings fit perfectly into Régis Le Bris’ attacking and dynamic system.

At just 20 years old, Talbi chose Sunderland for its ambitious project and youthful squad: “The great project and talented young team really motivated me. The Premier League is the biggest and best league, and I want to prove my worth,” he said during his introductory interview.

Talbi adds to Sunderland’s exciting African roster, aiming to help the team stay up and push beyond. Fans now eagerly await the Moroccan’s debut at the Stadium of Light, as he looks to showcase his skills and inspire the club against West Ham and throughout the season. With his drive and decisive qualities, Talbi could become the new star for the Black Cats.
