Geoffrey Kondogbia’s Future Uncertain at Marseille Amid Strong Season

Geoffrey Kondogbia, the experienced midfielder of Olympique de Marseille, finds himself at a crucial crossroads in his career. Having clocked 25 appearances in Ligue 1 during the 2024-2025 season, his future at OM remains uncertain despite a contract running until 2027. The club is looking to reduce its wage bill, and Kondogbia might be among those affected.

The 32-year-old former Valence player has often stepped in successfully as a central defender under coach Roberto De Zerbi, who values his commitment and versatility. Still, OM’s intention to strengthen the defense in summer 2025, coupled with competition in midfield, could complicate his situation, making his continuation at the club less guaranteed.

Financially, his hefty monthly salary, around €450,000 gross, weighs heavily on the club’s budget. This financial pressure is pushing management to reconsider the squad’s composition. However, De Zerbi wants to keep Kondogbia, creating tension between the club’s economic constraints and the coach’s sporting decisions.

At 32, Kondogbia remains a seasoned player capable of contributing his expertise at Marseille or elsewhere. The summer 2025 transfer window will be decisive for him, both personally and for OM, as the club aims to prepare ambitiously for Ligue 1 and the Champions League next season.
