Achraf Hakimi legal battle: the PSG star’s court challenge makes headlines

Paris Saint-Germain’s Moroccan defender Achraf Hakimi finds himself at the center of a major legal storm as French prosecutors have called for his trial over a rape charge dating back to February 2023. The Nanterre prosecutor’s office asked on August 1, 2025, for Hakimi to be referred to the Hauts-de-Seine criminal court—a development shaking the world of football.

The accusations stem from an incident after the alleged victim and Hakimi connected on Instagram. The young woman claims she was raped at Hakimi’s home in Boulogne-Billancourt while his wife and children were away. Despite initially not filing a formal complaint, police opened an investigation. Hakimi, 26, was placed under judicial supervision after being charged in March 2023.

The footballer has consistently denied all allegations. His lawyer, Fanny Colin, maintains there is “strong evidence” to clear him and described prosecutors’ call for trial as “incomprehensible and senseless in light of the case’s evidence”. PSG has publicly supported Hakimi, insisting on their trust in the judicial system to establish the facts.

This potential trial could have immense consequences for Hakimi’s career, the PSG image, and even the broader football scene. The sports world and media now await further judicial decisions, as Hakimi faces the real possibility of a lengthy prison term if found guilty.
