Idrissa Gueye (FC Metz): The Senegalese Rising Star Captivating Europe

At just 18 years old, Idrissa Gueye has established himself as one of FC Metz’s major revelations. Arriving in January 2025 from Génération Foot Academy, this Senegalese prodigy quickly made a name for himself with impressive performances in Ligue 2, attracting interest from several top European clubs.

Born on September 16, 2006, Gueye is a striker known for his remarkable speed, composure in front of goal, and rare maturity for his age. In just 20 appearances for Metz, he has scored 6 goals and provided one assist, playing a key role in the team’s promotion to Ligue 1. His move to the French club came after a successful season in Senegal, where he won the Ligue 1 title with Génération Foot and scored 12 goals in 26 matches at only 16 years old.

Interest in Gueye continues to grow in Europe. According to Transferts.com, several English clubs including Southampton (relegated to the Championship), West Ham, Wolverhampton, and Manchester United are closely monitoring his progress. Borussia Dortmund has even engaged in talks with his representatives, impressed by his exceptional potential.

FC Metz, aware of its gem’s value, has set a high price estimated between €15 and €20 million. Protected by a contract through 2029, the Lorraine club anticipates a busy transfer window involving Gueye. This price reflects the confidence placed in a player destined for a bright future. Gueye is also recognized internationally. He has played for Senegal’s youth teams (U17, U20) and has already been called up to the senior national squad. His all-around profile makes him a highly coveted player combining speed, technique, and goal-scoring efficiency.
