Real Sociedad Targets Promising Kenyan Captain Amos Wanjala for Major Transfer

At just 19 years old, Amos Emmanuel Wanjala, captain of Kenya’s U20 team and a versatile defensive midfielder, has caught the eye of La Liga club Real Sociedad. After a strong season in Spain’s fifth division with Athletic Club Torrellano, the young talent is close to securing a long-term contract, despite ongoing negotiations over a resale clause demanded by his current club.

Amos Emmanuel Wanjala, a rising star in Kenyan football and leader of the U20 national team, is about to take a decisive step in his European career. Having joined Athletic Club Torrellano in Spain’s fifth division last September, the 19-year-old defensive midfielder quickly established himself as a versatile player, able to perform as a central defender, right back, or in his preferred defensive midfield role. With 21 appearances this season, he has demonstrated adaptability and promise.

La Real Sociedad, a renowned La Liga club, has opened talks with Torrellano for an ambitious transfer. The Basque club aims to secure Wanjala on a six-year deal, highlighting their confidence in his potential. This move follows previous interest from Real Madrid Castilla, which did not lead to an agreement. According to sources close to the case, the main obstacle is a 14% resale clause demanded by Athletic Torrellano on any future transfer.

Before his current stint, Wanjala played for Gimnàstic de Tarragona, a professional club affiliated with the Nastic Sports Academy. His rise in Europe is also thanks to his outstanding performances in Kenya, notably with St. Anthony’s Boys High School in Kitale, which won the national high school championship last August.

Internationally, Wanjala already boasts an impressive resume. As captain of Kenya’s U18 and U20 teams, he led his sides to the CECAFA tournament final in December 2023 and competed in the recent Africa Cup of Nations. His progress has earned him three caps with Kenya’s senior Harambee Stars team.

Wanjala’s potential, combined with his strong motivation to join Real Sociedad, promises a bright future for this young footballer now in the spotlight of top-level European football. The crucial next step will be finalizing an agreement acceptable to all parties regarding the transfer’s terms.
